The Parish Liturgy Program is a two-year program designed to provide both a practical and academic based understanding of the tradition, theology and pastoral praxis of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. It seeks to integrate the experience and wisdom of the participants with the documents, rituals, and traditions that give shape and meaning to the liturgical life of the Church, especially as this applies to the liturgical life of the parish.

Calendar and Modules

The PLP consists of four semesters over a two-year time frame.                                                                                           
September  2012-  Semester 1 –  Introduction to the Liturgy                                                                                            
January 2013 – Semester 2 – The Sacraments 
September 2013 – Semester 3 – When the Church Gathers to Pray                                                                                          
January 2014 – Semester 4 – Preparing for the Liturgy  

Each 15 week semester consists of approximately 40 hours of class time . 
The classes are scheduled on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Each semester includes a Reflection or Retreat.                                                                                

A theological/liturgical reflection paper is due at the end of each semester.                                                                
A pastoral/liturgical project is submitted at the end of the 4th semester.                                                     
A Certificate of Completion is issued by the Office for Divine Worship.

On Our Team

The instructors for the Parish Liturgy Program come to us highly qualified in liturgy and liturgical practice.  They currently are instructors at CTU, St. Joseph College -Rensselaer, Loyola, and St. Mary of the Lake-Mundelein.  Our instructors are also drawn from pastors of the Archdiocesan parishes and alums who have continued advanced studies in liturgy and pastoral practice.  


PLP Comes to the South Side

Classes will meet in The Devine Center at St. Julie Billiart Parish. The Devine Center is located behind the Church.  There is ample parking near the Center.                                                                         
 St. Julie is located at 7399 W. 159th St. in Tinley Park, IL. 60477  (Harlem at 159th).

There are many restaurants in the area for a quick pick up.  Coffee and tea are provided at the center. Light treats are provided by participants during the break.  


Tuition and Fees

Tuition is $450 for each of four semester ($900 per year, $1800 for the entire program) payable at the beginning of each semester.  There is a $50 registration/graduation fee due with the application for participation in the program.  It is non-refundable.

Required books are purchased by the participants: most are available through Liturgy Training Publications. Instructors usually provide outlines and materials directly related to the unit they are teaching. 


How to Apply

Applicants are those persons who are currently working in some area of liturgy in a parish, have completed at least one year of ministry in the parish, or have some experience/involvement in the liturgical life of their parish.

Applicants ideally have a basic knowledge of Liturgy gained through reading, workshops, and practical experience.

Applicants should mail a completed application; letter of recommendation, or agreement form; and registration fee of $50 payable to ODW to:
